Kids & Creeks Spring Season

Kids and Creeks is busy with our Spring Season of field trips!

Desi is teaching 3rd graders from Shasta Elementary about the sense of hearing. By simulating the ears of a deer, students learn to listen to everything nature has to offer.

Teen Summer Programs

Week 1: June 18 - 22 8:00 - 1:00 PM

Teens entering grades 7 - 9 are invited to participate in two, 1 week sessions of on-going stewardship and habitat restoration efforts while exploring the ecology of Big Chico Creek. We are pleased to offert this program in partnership with the Chico Creek Nature Center.

Family Camping Weekend: July 13 - 15

You supply your family, and let Kids and Creeks take care of the rest! This weekend of camping fun will be combined with hands-on science and natural history lessons for all ages during this adventure among the pines. Staff members will share about the ecology of the region through games, activities, and guided discovery throughout the weekend. On Saturday we will take a gentle hike into Colby Meadows, where we will picnic near the source of Butte Creek. Evenings will feature stargazing, stories, songs, and s’mores around the campfire. Group cooking gear provided; participants share in food purchases and meal preparation. Fee covers 2-night campsite reservations, group gear and logistics organization. Join us in creating a camping weekend that will be a highlight of the summer!

Location: Just inside Lassen National Forest, Cherry Hill Campground sits among tall pines and firs near the headwaters of Butte Creek at 4700’ in elevation

Price: $129 per person (ages 16 & Up), $69 per person (ages 6-15), Free (ages 5 & Under)

Teen Backpacking Weekend: July 23 - 26

Beginner backpacking trip for teens! Kids and Creeks invites 13 – 15 year-olds to participate in a hands-on science adventure among the pines and granite of the Northern Sierra! This excursion is geared toward beginner-level backpackers, and will take place at 7000’ in the Grouse Ridge region of Tahoe National Forest, a location known for open granite and over two dozen lakes just 2.5 hours from Chico. Food, transportation, and backpacking gear will be provided. Parents and teens must attend a pre-trip meeting on July 19 at 7:00 pm in the CARD office.

Location: This roadless areas lies a mere 6 miles north of the intersection of Highway 20 and Interstate 80. Our adventure begins at the Carr Lake trailhead, 113 miles from Chico. From there we will hike to Island Lake for a refreshing swim before continuing on to Downey Lake, where we will set up a base camp for day trips to Glacier Lake and Five Lakes Basin, with options to explore other lakes in the region.
